Brian Coleman, the Conservative councillor for Totteridge and the GLA member for Barnet and Camden, appeared on Radio 4's You and Yours programme on Tuesday8jan to discuss people's attitudes to homosexuality.
Mr Coleman, who is gay, said: "In my experience in politics, [in] all the major parties, if it wasn't for the involvement of gay men it would grind to a halt. Whether they are all open and honest about it is another matter."
If they were, he added, homosexuality 'wouldn't be the issue it appears to be'.
He continued: "I think residents don't care about your sexuality as long as you get the holes in the roads mended for them. They judge you for what you achieve as a politician not what you do in the bedroom."
