An air ambulance was called to Henley's Corner in Finchley to evacuate an injured driver after a serious road crash during Monday's evening rush hour.

A Honda Ballade travelling west in the third lane on the North Circular near Beaufort Drive spun out of control shortly after 5pm. The driver's side hit the nearside kerb, colliding with two concrete bollards and the car ended up on a salt bin. No other vehicles were involved. The 33-year-old driver, who has not been identified, was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, where his condition was described as 'critical but stable'.

Two passengers, a 23-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man, were taken to the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead by ambulance where they were treated for minor injuries and later released. Police are unclear why the car spun and are appealing for witnesses to call the accident investigation unit on 020 8246 9820.
