A rising star from Borehamwood has left behind the bright lights of the West End to take a leading role in a pantomime a lot closer to home.

Jamie Farr, who performed in the London show Les Miserables for two years, will appear in Aladdin at the Radlett Centre later this month.

The 22-year-old singer and actress will play Princess Jasmine, the girl who wins Aladdin's heart and is rescued by him, in the show.

Jamie, from Theobald Street, this week said she was delighted to have the opportunity to perform in her local theatre, in front of her family and friends.

"This is my first pantomime part and it is really nice to do something fun it also means I will be near home at Christmas," she said.

Jamie, who left Les Miserables six months ago, joined the show as an understudy and went on to play the parts of Eponie and Cosette.

She has since played a role in a television drama, directed by the Only Fools and Horses star David Jason, which is due to be shown at Easter.

Jamie attended Borehamwood's Lila Vincent School of Dance as a child, and joined the Italia Conti Stage School in London on leaving Holmshill School.

She was later awarded a place at the Mountview Theatre School, where she achieved a first class honours degree in Performance.

"I love doing television work, but what I really want to do is get into the music industry I would love to be a pop singer," she said.

Aladdin will be staged at the Radlett Centre between Tuesday, December 18, and Sunday, December 30. For tickets phone 01923 859291.
