One of the biggest names in Country and Western music is coming to Elstree later this year.

As the top of the bill in a Rotary Club Gala Variety Show, Susan McCann is certain to draw a big crowd when she plays at the Allum Lane Community Centre in November.

Mrs McCann has played alongside legends such as Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, Crystal Gayle and Emmylou Harris, and has graced the stage at the Grand Ole Opry

Show organiser Barry Collins said he persuaded the singer to take part in the show as a favour, and was sure she would give a rousing performance.

"She's quite a big name in Country music, and we were lucky to get her," he added.

The show will also feature a variety of music, comedy and drama.

The funding raised through the show will be used to support the Rotary Club's projects in Borehamwood and Elstree, such as the regular Christmas dinners supplied for pensioners and the school art competition.

"This is the first show the Rotary Club has put on for a long time, and if it goes well I think we could put another one on next year," said Mr Collins himself a veteran comedian, with experience of live shows.

Tickets for the Gala Variety Show, sponsored by Elstree Lighting and Power and IPH Insurance, cost £10 or £7, and are already selling fast. The show will start at 7pm on Thursday, November 29.
