Chairman Tony Kleanthous poured cold water on reports that Barnet have received a £250,000 offer for their star striker Darren Currie from Queens Park Rangers.

"There have been no offers or inquiries for any of our players," said Mr Kleanthous. "We want to try and keep our best players so that we can achieve promotion. Everybody knows that it's been my ambition for a long time for us to get out of the third division.

"Besides, £250,000 is a ridiculously low valuation of Currie, who is one of the most skilful players in our division."

But Bees striker Scott McGleish could be moving soon. His most recent appearance in the starting line-up was in the 3-1 defeat at Leyton Orient in October, and the arrival of Tony Cottee as player-manager and the return of Omer Riza is likely to further restrict his opportunities. Cottee said he would be having a chat with McGleish about his situation.

McGleish has been linked with a move to Rochdale or Cambridge United.

"McGleish is in the last year of his contract and I can appreciate that he wants to secure his future," said Kleanthous.

Fast-raiding Riza showed his capabilities during his loan spell with the Bees in October, scoring excellent goals against Leyton Orient and Lincoln City. The loan agreement expired, and he returned briefly to West Ham.

But he's back on a two-month agreement, and Cottee hopes the move will become permanent.

"Riza will have to decide whether he wants to play regularly in a young squad that is going places, or remain a reserve with a Premiership club where he could become forgotten, said Kleanthous.

"We can springboard his rise to a higher level, just as we did for Maik Taylor, Dougie Freedman, Sean Devine and Linvoy Primus," said the chairman.
