Barnet 205-9 dec. Ickenham 106

Middlesex County League Division Two

Barnet recovered well from their defeat by Stanmore when they travelled to second placed Ickenham on Saturday and ran out comfortable winners by 99 runs.

This was a good all-round performance which confirms Barnet's progress in recent seasons and shows that they are not out of their depth in Division Two.

Put into bat, Barnet soon lost skipper Anooj Vadgama. But Deepak Singh (73) and Baqar Rizvi (32) batted sensibly with Singh's innings including three straight sixes in one over from off-spinner Mungrue.

With the match reduced to 90 overs, quick runs were still needed, and Kanti Vaghjiani hit out to all parts of the ground, scoring 50 off only 42 balls.

Ickenham, left 46 overs to score 206, suffered a blow when Mungrue was out without a run on the board and were never likely to threaten the Barnet total.

Barnet never looked back. Leon Roberts was again the leading wicket taker with 4-34, admirably aided by Rizvi.

They were backed by some brilliant catches as Ickenham fell well short at 106.

On Saturday, Barnet are at home to Hornsey. They completed an excellent weekend, beating North Middlesex by six wickets in the Middlesex Ibex Cup. After North Middlesex totalled 207-4, Tom Brasier (70no) and Jega Sittampalam (53) saw Barnet home.
