VK Barnet rounded off a fine weekend with victories for the men's and women's team over Hitchin-based SG5.

For the women, this was their first league victory, and the first time they had even won a set. After going 2-0 down they clawed their way back to secure a remarkable 3-2 victory.

In the first two sets, the women looked sluggish, committing serving errors and SG5's pressure brought them a 25-19, 25-11 lead.

However, VK led with an air of purpose in the third. Jackie Poole and Sue Munro began to find their range, and Beth and Jill Morgan played with passion.

Jane Sanchez added an extra dimension to VK's play and they won the set 25-21.

It was close in the fourth, but VK snatched it 25-23 and than took just seven minutes to clinch the match with a 15-3 win.

Six times league champions, VK's men went four points clear at the top of the table with a 28-26, 25-18, 25-11 victory over SG5.

Making their VK debuts, Donald Deans and Lefty Tsepetonidis provided the fire power at the net, capitalising on strong serving by Martin Ellcock and Stuart Ablett.
