DAVID CHARLES was Garston Gunners' match-winner as he struck twice in his side's Herts Senior Cup fifth round 3-1 win at Potters Bar Rovers.

The scores were level at 1-1 after a well-contested first half, but the Gunners proved to have more firepower in the second period as Charles and Henry Thomas found the net to ensure victory.

Matt Newman will have enjoyed few better days after firing a double hat-trick for William Morris against Quadrant in the Premier Division.

His side eventually cruised to a 9-3 victory, with further goals coming from Mark Fraser, Andy Wyard and Matt Collins.

An Alan Sheran penalty for Gayton Wanderers decided the outcome of their cagey contest away at Leavesden Green.

Goals from Chris Canning and Casey cancelled each other out in the first-half, before Sheran held his nerve to slot home the winner from the spot five minutes from the end.

Elsewhere, Mark Gibbon and Paul McGlinn were on target for N & P Old Boys, but their side was on the wrong end of a five-goal thriller at Waterfields as Radlett Rangers, through scorers Danny Hall, Steve Ford and Paul Wright, took the points with a 3-2 win.

Orbital were left hanging on for a point after a 3-1 half-time lead against Green Dragon evaporated during the second-half of a match that finally ended 4-4.

The loss of Steve Tebbutt in the first-half had disasterous consequences for Headstone Athletic, as they suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Riverside.

Defeat to Abbots Langley was the only blemish on BK Sports' title-winning campaign last season, and it could be a case of deja vu come May, after Saturday's Division One clash of the titans, again, went against Sports in a 1-0 defeat.

AFC Artichoke nearly took the latter part of their name too literally in allowing North Bushey RBL back into a game that, at 3-0 in the second-half, should have been over.

Simon Hayward (2) and Matthew Tibblea had established a comfortable lead, before goals from John Sutton and Rahim Kurji ensured a grandstand finish.
