Yeading 1

Hampton & Richmond Borough 3 (Jan 15)

AFTER away league defeats at Ford United and Northwood, the Ding fell to League Cup defeat on Tuesday (Jan 15), losing to a side full of ex-Yeading players.

The Ding had the best of the possession in the opening half hour of a rather poor first 45, with Jesse Hall going closest on 22 minutes, denied only by the giant outstretched arms of Hampton keeper Stuart Mackenzie. However, the Ding lacked real penetration and against the run of play fell behind in the 32nd minute.

A rash challenge from Danny Hawksworth brought a Hampton penalty and Craig Maskell duly converted.

The second half was similar to the first, but Yeading looked more dangerous with Matt Edwards added to the attack and Bobby Behzadhi getting past Hampton's left sided defenders.

It was to be Hampton again, however, who scored first. Matt Flitter's free kick was drilled into the box from the left, took several deflections and somehow ended up in the back of the home net.

Within two minutes however, Yeading pulled a goal back, Matt Miller finishing a move that involved Lee Johnson, a Mackenzie save and Behzadi cross.

The revival was to be short-lived. With 15 minutes to go, Hampton had a series of corners that Yeading failed to clear and ex-Ding man Flitter drilled home his second goal of the game inside the upright from eight yards out.

The Cup exit came after a poor league performance at Northwood at the weekend. Yeading were 3-0 down by half time and when captain Keith Newby was sent off, the game was sealed.

Next, the Ding face Walton & Hersham at home in the league on Saturday.
