Ashley Greenstreet's response to my letter regarding the proposals for "traffic calming" in Bexley village (News Shopper, January 2), confuses me completely .
We are apparently in total agreement as to the cause of our problems illegal and selfish parking.
Ashley said the congestion outside shops causes frustration and less careful driving by those inconvenienced. Absolutely!
I do not, however, understand how these difficulties will be alleviated by more deliberate obstructions as outlined in council proposals.
I said in my original letter, an enforced speed limit was highly desirable and I can imagine just where, and how, the examples of poor driving given by Ashley took place.
Surely humps, restrictions and a myriad of further signs to observe will only serve to increase frustration and the consequent lack of self control so often encountered.
What I find most disturbing is the attitude that the well-being of the village and its traders is of little importance. However, it is not the fault of the shopkeepers that their customers are so thoughtless in the manoeuvres they carry out in their cars and where they "abandon" the vehicles!
