CAMPAIGNERS in Anerley reacted cautiously to the news their town hall could be struck off a list of council cuts.
The Friends of Anerley held noisy demonstrations at a full council meeting and in Beckenham to voice its concerns for the future of the town's hall and library facilities.
And Bromley's council leader Michael Tickner indicated it may have succeeded when he recommended the leisure and community services committee drop the plan when it meets later this month.
Protesters handed a petition to councillors with almost 2,500 signatures opposing plans to sell off the town hall.
And Councillor Tickner indicated he was prepared to bow to the pressure, saying: "The town hall is to be saved because many Conservatives in the area have recommended the proposals be dropped.
"We feel it is a very important facility and we have said we will not close any libraries."
But Friends chairman Breda Gardner said: "This is very important to us. The council could still change its mind. We can't trust everything they say, so we'll be keeping up the pressure until the final decision is made."
