Bromley Lions Club recently announced its plans for Bromley Carnival 2002, to be held on August Bank Holiday Monday. Speaking at a reception at Bromley Civic Centre, the Club's vice president, Lynne Noble said:

"The annual carnival can benefit the well-being of our community if it involves a cross section of it. We invite everyone to take part in the carnival, to come out on the streets for the parade and to enjoy the entertainment in Norman Park. Moreover, we invite the people of Bromley to make Carnival 2002 a special celebration of the Queen's 50th Jubilee. To those planning their own parties and celebrations, we say come and join us at Carnival 2002 as well."

The reception, hosted by the Mayor of Bromley, Councillor John Holbrook, included guests representing the local authority, the business community, schools, charity groups and others. Councillor Holbrook gave his full backing to the annual Carnival. He said: "Bromley Carnival is an important event in the community calendar. It's great fun and a fun day out. I encourage everyone to think how they might, themselves, get involved."

Bromley Lions Club will be investing almost £10,000 in its carnival plans. There will be the traditional parade through the town centre and entertainment in Norman Park. The carnival procession is being given the theme The Queen and Her Commonwealth and there will be prizes for the best entrants. A Grand Carnival Raffle will be promoted from April.
