THE Gerrards Cross Concert-goers trip to Barbican on Tuesday, January 22, has been cancelled. The group's next outing will be on Sunday February 3 to see Andre Previn conduct violinist Kyung-Wha Chung and the London Symphony in a programme which includes Dvorak and Sibelius.

SIXTY young people, some who had never received Christmas presents before, were treated to seasonal gifts courtesy of the Oak End Way Methodist Church. Proceeds from a very successful ploughman's lunch and a bring-and-buy sale were presented to The Shaw Trust, which helps young disabled people in the Wycombe area.

WOMEN of Romania have prepared the service for the Womens World Day of Prayer, which this year will be celebrated on Friday, March 1, with a service at Gold Hill Baptist Church. From next Thursday until the end of February informal weekly 20-minute prayer meetings are being held at noon at St James Church in Gerrards Cross as a precursor to the March event.

THE second round of the Rose Bowl pits the Chalfonts and Gerrards Cross Camera Club against Marlow Camera Club, Witney Camera Club and Wantage Camera Club, who will host the event next Tuesday evening.

The following evening the local club holds its regular weekly meeting at the Memorial Centre when Joe Dodgson ARPS, DPAGB, BPE, will judge the club's second colour print of the competition, which has"Moody" as a set subject.

THE first Book Fair of 2002 takes place at the Memorial Centre on Saturday. Organiser Patty Lafferty usually has around 40 stalls selling all types of hardback and paperback books. It is open from 10am to 4pm and refreshments are available.

PETER Dorling, who spent most of his career at the BBC, will take members of the Gerrards Cross and Chalfont St Peter Probus Club on a broadcasting trip down memory lane when the group meets on Wednesday. The meeting takes place at St James Church hall on the Oxford Road at 10.30am.

NEXT fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Relief will be a bridge afternoon at the Memorial Centre on Monday, January 28. It is being organised by the Gerrards Cross branch and tickets are £6 to include tea. Reservations are being taken on 01753 883573 or 01494 876034.

FLOWER Club members launch their 2002 season on Wednesday afternoon at the Memorial Centre. The group meets on the third Wednesday of each month and membership is £20 for centre members and £25 for non-members. Guests are always welcome to attend and if you would like more information on the programme call 01494 673911 or 01753 884940.

THE Booksmart Club for children aged eight to 12 years begins again at the Station Road library on Tuesday at 5.30pm. The club promotes and encourages children who are interested in books.

For the under fives, Storytime at 2.10pm on Thursday afternoons is a must during term time as it encourages the toddlers to become attracted to books.
