WYCOMBE coasted to victory as a flurry of second half goals from Danny Bulman, Richard Walker and Darren 'Ruby' Currie ensured their entry to Sunday's third round draw and the chance of a big-name tie.

The first half opened slowly as the frosty pitch inhibited both sides. The visitors started confidently and came close when Darren Caskey's fourth minute free kick saw Ian Richardson's header hit the stanchion.

Despite good efforts from Wanderers' Michael Simpson and Stuart Roberts, it was County who came closest to scoring in the first 20 minutes, firstly when Danny Senda was forced to block after Paul McCarthy was beaten and also when a poor Martin Taylor punch was nearly forced home.

Wycombe were forced to make a change after Gavin Holligan was injured, but for the rest of the half neither side threatened until Currie hit a 25-yard volley just wide.

Manager Laurie Sanchez's words at half-time came to good effect as the Chairboys took the lead seven minutes after the interval. Good work from Roberts on the right wing resulted in a cross that Bulman converted with a diving header.

Within eight minutes, the home side doubled their lead as Roberts again sprinted onto a through ball to keep it in before cutting it back for Aston Villa's on-loan striker Walker to crash the ball in off the bar.

From then on Notts County lost confidence, something surely not helped by the fact that they lie 21st in the division, having not won in 11 matches. Wycombe continued to press and both Bulman and Emblen could have increased the lead, Bulman failing to convert when put through and Emblen heading wide from a Roberts cross.

Good football between Bulman and Currie nearly released Walker but the defence was able to clear and again the Blues could have gone further ahead when Chris Vinnicombe knocked a ball in that evaded everyone at the back post.

The excellent Roberts looked to have earned a penalty when he went down in the box but the referee ignored the penalty claims.

Despite the fact that Caskey came close twice in a minute for the visitors, Taylor kept him out with two good saves and it was always Wanderers who looked more likely to score.

Eventually they did as Emblen knocked the ball to Currie who, having been compared to David Beckham by his uncle this week, curled an exquisite chip in to the top corner from 25 yards. Both Currie and Roberts deserved the applause they received when substituted.

County's frustration was summed up as Australian Danny Allsop was booked after resorting to an attempt to punch the ball past Taylor.

Wycombe have plenty to be happy about as the prospect of a premiership giant killing awaits them.
