MORE than 30 swimmers aged 13 and upwards, plus five coaches, from Bromley Swimming Club, travelled to Lanzarote for a week-long training camp at Club La Santa, used by many international sports stars.

Led by acting chief coach Shelley Camy and team manager Dave Gibbs, the group trained in the 50-metre pool for three hours each day.

A club spokesman said: The week was hard work, but great fun and everyone benefited from the excellent facilities at Club La Santa.

“All swimmers greatly improved their fitness and are now producing new personal bests, while team spirit and morale improved as well.”

Meanwhile, the final round of the North Kent Junior League was held at Sevenoaks, and in a dramatic gala Bromley Swimming Club lost by just two points to Ashford.

If that was not agonising enough, it also meant the club were beaten to the league title by just one point!

Eight individual victories were achieved and the star for Bromley was Xavier Mohamm-ed, who set a new junior club record in winning the 11 and under breaststroke, as well a first place in the freestyle.

Other fine wins were by Anna-Louise Barrett (11 & under breaststroke), Sean King (12 & under breaststroke), Kristian Powell (13 & under backstroke), Georgina Campbell (12 & under butterfly and free-style), plus Felicity Gilmore in the 11 & under backstroke.

Second places went to Joanna Gough-Reynolds (11 & under butterfly), Gina Deave (10 & under freestyle and butterfly), Hannah Lodge (12 and under breaststroke), Lucy Gilmore (13 & under backstroke), Claire Baker (12 & under backstroke), Andrew Moore (12 & under backstroke), Holly Trenouth (13 & under butterfly) and Sean King (12 & under freestyle).
