Wilmington are through to the third round of the Kent Junior Cup, beating Kent County side Halls after a replay.

Wilmington keeper Danny Mills was in outstanding form, producing a number of top class saves to keep his side in the tie.

The first half saw chances for both sides. After 15 minutes Adam Harber beat the Halls keeper with a fiercely-hit shot, only to see it hit the upright.

Ten minutes later Harber again almost broke the deadlock when he headed a corner goal-bound, only to see his effort cleared off the line by a Halls defender.

Midway into the second half Mills was called upon to produce a couple of vital saves. First was from a curling shot from the edge of the penalty box which looked to be heading for the net until Mills threw himself acrobatically across his goal to tip the ball around the post. Then, moments later, Mills somehow managed to get both hands to a thunderous volley from six yards and push the ball over the bar.

But with just five minutes left Wilmington broke down the right, Steve Goodacre's cross was blocked by a Halls defender only for the ball to fall nicely into his path just on the edge of the box, and Goodacre placed the ball into the corner of the net beyond the reach of the home keeper to secure his side a place into the next round.

This Saturday, Wilmington are again in cup action, this time in the Queen Mary League Cup with a tough first-round tie away to First Divison leaders Long Lane.
