A PENGE woman died after being hit by a motorcyclist, an inquest has heard.

Nargis Abbasi, 66, was crossing the road when Paul Musk, 31, who was about to do his final exams to become a doctor, crashed into her on his motorbike. Mr Musk told the inquest how the victim had appeared suddenly on Lordship Lane, Peckham, as he pulled slowly away from the traffic lights.

He told Southwark Coroner's Court Mrs Abbasi, who lived Kenilworth Road, had her hair down and appeared to be hurrying when he hit her.

“I just saw her at the last minute and I didn't have time to put my brakes on or use my horn. I tried to avoid her even prior to impact but she hadn't looked up to see me. She seemed oblivious I was there. I was too emotional to offer her any help. There were people there who knew what should be done.”

Mrs Abbasi was treated in Kings College Hospital but died of a massive haemorrhage caused by a broken pelvis and a blood clot on the brain.

Recording a verdict of accidental death, deputy assistant coroner Dr Roy Palmer said: “For reasons which are not entirely clear the lady did not see the motorcycle, and the motorcyclist saw her too late.”
