Hart Dyke Road, on St Mary's Estate, has suffered road safety troubles, including joy-riding and speeding.
Kent County Council has called on the Government to include the road in its £30m Home Zone package, bringing improvements to the area by 2004.
Sevenoaks District Council's Senior Traffic and Transport Engineer, Ian China, submitted the proposal following a petition signed by 101 residents.
The decision will be known in the New Year.
