AN ORPINGTON father-of-two had his five minutes of fame as he walked through the famous sliding doors on TV soundalike show Stars In Their Eyes.

Guitar teacher Tony Bodnar, 32, of Leith Hill, was watched by millions as he sang the Elvis Costello song Watching the Detectives on last Saturday's show.

It was a star performance for his wife, Louisa, and sons Sam, eight, and Harrison, four.

Tony has done gigs with bands in the past, but has no definite plans to work as an Elvis Costello impersonator unless something special comes along.

He said: “I applied for the show ages ago, when my wife rang for an application form and hassled me to fill it in.

“I didn't hear anything for months and assumed I wouldn't be appearing.

“But then they asked me to an audition and to another one in Manchester, and then called asking me to be on the show.

“Everyone there was fantastic, so professional, and Matthew Kelly was absolutely brilliant.

“He really puts you right at ease.

“It was a fun day and a great laugh.”

The motor racing fan will not be returning to our screens for the show's final as he was beaten to the victor's spot by Annie Shepherd, 39, from High Wycombe, who appeared as Judith Durham. Other competition on the show included impersonations of Britney Spears and Alanis Morissette.

Tony relived his experience watching the show, which is recorded in advance, on Saturday.

He had a big party for family and friends and his sons saw their dad on TV.

And while Tony may not be a superstar yet, the kids in his street keep calling him Elvis.
