POST Office workers throughout Bromley borough staged a 24-hour strike last week to protest against the Governments proposed privatisation of Westminster Bridge Road post office.
Members of the Communication Workers Union, which represents postal staff, voted overwhelmingly in favour of the strike and more than 320 staff in the south-east were involved in the industrial action.
The CWU believes the privatisation of the site has more to do with property values than providing a better public postal service, and slammed the consultation process as a complete and utter sham.
CWU spokesman, Mole Mead, said the union had been keen not to disrupt Post Office services over Christmas, as this would have been unfair on the public whose interests it is trying to protect.
The CWU also warned customers they face months of disruption if the privatisation of the Westminster Bridge Road post office goes ahead.
The building, which has won awards for its architecture, will be demolished and local people will have to use a portakabin for three months while a new building is erected.
