VICIOUS robbers left a 70-year-old man badly traumatised in an early morning screwdriver attack, at his St Mary Cray home.

The 70-year-old man, of Hodsoll Court, St Mary Cray, had the 12in screwdriver held to his throat by one of the two thugs, who demanded money.

The robbers ransacked his house, grabbing a small amount of cash and jewellery before making their getaway in a car parked outside his flat.

The pensioner's ordeal began when he lay terrified in his bed and saw the kitchen light go on at 2am, on April 23.

After a couple of minutes, he plucked up enough courage to go and see what was going on and when he opened the kitchen door, he was confronted by two men, one of them holding the screwdriver.

When the pensioner tried to speak, the man with the screwdriver slapped him and told him to shut up.

Then the thugs forced him back into the bedroom, onto his bed and held the screwdriver to his throat demanding cash. When he told them he had no money, they went through his belongings, tearing everything apart and finding a the cash and jewellery.

A police spokesman said: “One of the attackers got in through a bedroom window and let the other in through the front door.

“It was a very unpleasant attack. We would like to speak to anyone who can help us find the people responsible.”
