MAYPLACE Primary School has been awarded Beacon status after a government inspection found its facilities to be excellent.

From the extra funding awarded with the title, the Woodside Road school, in Barnehurst, will be offering to work with other schools in the areas of citizenship, creating a culture, quality of teaching and training in school leadership and management.

There will be modules for other schools to share and partnership arrangements for exchange visits for teachers.

Schools are awarded Beacon status for excelling in particular fields. Mayplace Primary was given the award with 452 others in the country to bring the total to more than 1,000.

Mayplace joins other schools in the area, such as Blackfen School for Girls and Dartford Grammar School as well as Perry Hall Primary School, in Bromley.

Headteacher Martyn Jordan said: “We are pleased to have been given Beacon status because it will enable us to work with other schools to our mutual benefit.”
