RECYCLING glass is a top priority for Kent County Council's War on Waste campaign, which encourages people to recycle more of their rubbish.
The council wants householders to start recycling the 500 glass bottles and jars they consume on average every year.
It hopes to try and stop these types of items ending up in landfill sites in Kent which are filled with 740,000 tonnes of waste every year, and are rapidly running out of space. The cost of disposing of these items also costs local authorities money, and wastes precious natural resources. Other materials which can be recycled at household waste recycling centres include paper, cardboard, cans and garden waste.
