Bexley councillors have approved plans by Vodafone to put mobile phone equipment on the roof of Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup, despite the hospital trust's refusal to rent the site to the company.

The trust wrote to Bexley Council to say it had turned down an approach from the mobile phone company, but you don't need to own or have access to a site, to apply for planning permission.

Two other mast proposals were refused at the same planning control meeting. They were for a One 2 One 15ft mast on the Westwood Lane sub-station, Welling, and an application by BT Cellnet for a 10m mast at the junction of Little Heath Road and Cumberland Drive, Bexleyheath.

People living in The Green, Welling, are now fighting plans for a BT Cellnet mast, 30ft from some people's homes. Residents have until April 26 to object to Bexley Council.
