A PARTNERSHIP project between Greenwich Council and Charlton Athletic to stamp out racism has won a community award.
The organisations joined forces to create CARE the Charlton Athletic Race Equality Partnership to help defuse racial tensions through drama, art and sport.
The scheme has been honoured with the Local Government Chronicle's Community Initiative of the Year Award. The trophy was presented by actress Maureen Lipman at the Hilton Hotel.
The scheme has brought together private, public and voluntary groups. Football coaching, youth worker training and cricket tournaments have all played a part in the project.
Drama has been used to highlight anti-racist issues in schools and other young people have developed their own website and video.
