A PENSIONER from Northfleet was taken to the House of Commons by Chris Pond MP last week.

Francis Caffrey chatted to Prime Minister, Tony Blair, along with Ann Dunn from the Age Concern Centre in Northfleet.

The visit was just before the Chancellors pre-budget report which announced a basic pension is to rise by £5 and the winter fuel payment is to rise to £200 this year.

Mr Pond said: Winter can be a miserable time for pensioners but this year they can heat their homes without the worry of bills.

The pensioners I met in Northfleet had nothing but praise for the winter fuel allowance, telling me of the benefits it has brought. Pensioner poverty will be eradicated under New Labour.
