Charlton Ladies maintained their hold on the Kent County Cup by reaching the semi-finals with an emphatic 4-2 victory over cup favourites Millwall Lionesses.

A goal-less first-half did not hint at what was to follow but Millwall opened the scoring early in the second half with a fine strike from Tina Lindsay.

But they missed a great chance to extend their lead when Charlton keeper Lesley White lay injured in the six-yard box and the Blues only had to put the ball into the empty net but, amazingly, hit the post from where it was cleared.

Charlton responded when Zoe Payne curled a delightful free-kick into the top right-hand corner from just outside the box over the Blues wall and goalkeeper.

Corinne Covington then found herself with just the keeper to beat and she coolly placed the ball in the back of the net, and minutes later forward Jo Hards was first to latch onto a loose ball to shoot Charlton 3-1 ahead.

Millwall's influential Tina Lindsay continued to probe down the right wing and she was rewarded with a carbon-copy of her first goal to bring the Lionesses back into the game at 3-2.

But Natalie Christie defused the pressure with a match-clinching fourth goal ten minutes from time.

Charlton manager Cheryl Jeff said: "I'm so pleased for the team they did not stop battling and showed what they are capable of."
