THE Environment Agency may advise that 77 new homes not be built on contaminated land, at Hawley Road and Powder Mill Lane.
The location has potential problems with a high water-table, which could lead to flooding, and, as a former landfill site, dangerous gasses may build-up.
The Environment Agency has asked Bovis Homes, which plans to build the houses, to prove they can deal with the potential trouble.
An Environment Agency spokesman Jo Warburton said: Its up to Bovis Homes to prove they can overcome the fears we are expressing.
The Environment Agency must be completely satisfied.
