BACK-BENCH members of Wycombe District Council want the cabinet to find money for a community officer to help the town's Afro-Caribbean community.
A bid went in for extra money to fund the post, but the cabinet decided not to put money into it, though they agreed it was a high priority.
Then at a meeting of the social improvement scrutiny committee on Monday, Lib Dem councillor Brian Pollock said it was important to help communities help themselves, while Conservative Lesley Clarke said the full funding of £29,000 should be found.
Members also wanted more money spent to extend the council's handy van service, whereby elderly people can get jobs done round the house. An extra £38,000 would add gardening and decorating to the service.
The committee's views will be reported to the cabinet.
