POLICE, fire and ambulance crews were called to St Albans City Hospital on Friday evening after a woman gained got onto the roof and threatened to jump.

The 28-year-old woman, is an informal patient at the hospital's psychiatric St Julians Ward and had used the fire escape to reach the roof at around 7.30pm on Friday.

The emergency services were called and firemen used an hydraulic platform to gain access to the roof, where a doctor was able to speak to the patient, but was eventually forced to sedate the woman after she refused to come down.

A spokesman for the hospital said the woman was uninjured in the incident.

She added that as the woman was an informal patient she was able to "come and go" as she pleased and access to fire escapes had to be maintained in case of an emergency.
