A MANAGEMENT consultant had to resign his £35,000 a year job, and re-mortgage his house to pay children's school fees, after he was arrested by police. He was seen driving erratically in High Wycombe.

Brian Dunn, 52, from Farnham Royal, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen after he was seen by police near Harvest Barn, Bassetsbury Lane, High Wycombe, after they were tipped off by a member of the public who thought he was incapable of driving on March 26.

Felicity McWilliam, prosecuting at Wycombe Magistrates Court on Friday, said: "The officer smelt alcohol on his breath and saw he was unsteady on his feet."

The court heard that he failed three times to provide a breath sample and then failed to provide a sample a further five times back at the station.

Dunn told the court: "I was working at the time the offence took place but I have subsequently had to resign my job.

"My earnings were £35,000. It is all gone I'm afraid.

"I am guilty as charged. I have no excuse. It is out of character and we are, as you can imagine, under huge financial stress."

Dunn was given a 16 month driving ban, which will be reduced to 12 months if he completes a rehabilitation course.

He was fined £200 and ordered to pay £42 towards prosecution costs.
