AFTER six years of being crammed into a corridor, pupils have finally been given their own classroom.

Youngsters at Longwick Primary School were being taught in a wide corridor as the oversubscribed school was fit to burst with pupils.

However it wasn't until the Government ruled that Key Stage One pupils had to be in classes of no more than 30, that the school in Walnut Tree Lane was finally given funding for the classroom.

But even after they clinched the cash it took almost half a year to construct the room after flooding hampered building efforts.

After such a long wait headteacher Angela Lazarou felt the occasion needed to be marked so has invited Michael Hill, Bishop of Buckingham, to come and bless the room on Friday, November 2.

Mrs Lazarou said: "We can get ourselves organised a bit better now instead of being squeezed into silly little corners.

"We decided it had been such a long battle to get the classroom we needed to do something."

Youngsters are set to take over this afternoon by holding their own assembly to mark the official opening of the new classroom.

The school, which is currently home to 206 pupils, recently won an Investors In People award.

Mrs Lazarou added: "Everyone was delighted to have been recognised for that."

The classroom extension is now home to Year Six pupils.
