A FRIDGESAVERS scheme has been set up to allow pensioners and those in receipt of state benefits to exchange their old fridges and freezers for new.
The scheme means that a replacement fridge will cost £25, and could save a person up to £30 off their electricity bill each year. An old fridge-freezer can be exchanged with a new one for £50, or a fridge for £25.
Also, a new fridge-freezer can save a person up to £55 on their electricity bill, Eastern Energy will pay the remainder of the cost of appliance.
To qualify for the scheme people must be in receipt of benefits, and must have a fridge or fridge-freezer which is working but in poor condition and using too much electricity.
Information can be picked up from local libraries, community centres, One Stop Shop or housing department reception. Alternatively, you can write to fridgesavers directly, stating whether you have a fridge or fridge-freezer, at Fridgesavers Freepost, EH2257, Edinburgh, EH6 OJP.
