FOR the first time in its history, Watford Croquet Club has reached the finals of the prestigious Longman Cup, the national inter-club team handicap tournament.
The club has taken a squad of five Bill Gillott (handicap seven), Robert Bateson (10), Ian Parkinson (16), John Bee (18), Janet Lewis (18) to compete in Cheltenham this weekend.
The semi-finals will be played on Saturday September 29. followed by the final and third place play-off the following day. Each mach is made up of one doubles and two singles in the morning, followed by four singles in the afternoon.
The club meets regularly every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday at 2pm on the club lawns in Cassiobury Park.
