MAY I write in support of the gentleman Mr Alan Swan who wrote to your column last week in support of Central Railways?

I agree with everything he says. Do these people realise the railway was there long ago, and it never bothered us then.

When I was younger, and my children were small, I lived very near the railway line and to me it was a great sound to hear the trains going through the night.

No-one ever complained then, even though they were dirty and noisy. And people should realise if this scheme takes off, the trains will be modern and streamlined.
