A celebration to mark the official opening of a £4.5million housing scheme in Norbury saw Croydon councillors and local families gather for a fun day last week.

The family fun event on Friday, August 3, was for all the tenants of the new project, which incorporates ten newly-built family houses and two blocks of extensively refurbished flats.

The development, along Norbury Court Road, Beatrice Avenue and London Road, is a partnership between Kelsey Housing Association, Croydon Council and the Housing Corporation, comprising a total of 32 new homes.

A host of entertainment was provided in the grounds of the London Road flats, including a magic show, juggling and face painting.

The youngest residents had taken part in a painting competition called “My New Home”, and ward councillor Shafi Khan presented prizes to those children that took part.

Councillor Tony Newman, cabinet member for housing, was on hand to open the scheme.

He commented: “It's great to see the transformation of this site with carefully thought out, high quality accommodation, which combines refurbished homes and new-build.

“The aim has been to provide a new sense of community pride and identity.”
