BECKENHAM householders are being tricked into handing over cash to a pair of crooks pretending to be from the town's rugby club.

The two men who are described as white and aged between 18 and 20, have spent the last two weeks going from door to door asking for money to fund a club trip to Ireland.

This trip does not exist and the club is furious its name is being used fraudulently. The pair's antics have been reported to the police.

Rugby club committee member Richard Godden said: "Beckenham Rugby Club is disgusted these people are using our name in this way. We urge people not to give them any money and to call the police straight away."

A police spokesman said: "We will be passing on details about these two to local officers but it's very difficult to follow this up when we don't know where they are going to be next."
