BUSINESSES in and around Windermere are being urged to get behind a campaign aiming to promote the lake and the range of activities it offers.

Around £50,000 worth of activities, including water-skiing, wakeboarding, motor boat rides, canoeing, lake cruises as well as mountain biking, horse-riding and balloon trips will be given away as part of a drive by Windermere Action Force.

Anyone who spends more than £25 in participating shops or businesses can claim one of the 750 free activities, which will be taking place over the weekend of August 31 and September 1 at the Low Wood Centre and the Motor Boat Racing Club.

Tony Kemp, who founded the WAF in April to campaign against the impending 10mph lake speed ban, said the aim of the Windermere Heritage 2002 campaign was to promote healthy outdoor family fun, for people of all ages, on and around the lake.

Mr Kemp has spent the last week putting up posters and delivering details to businesses, as well as encouraging other companies and outlets to support his campaign, which has been endorsed by Cumbria Tourist Board.
