Soloists take centre stage at music festival

THE talents of young musicians impressed the judges at the Glasgow Music Festival yesterday.

Violinists and cellists from secondary schools played a 10-minute movement for the string concerto contest at the Woodside Halls. David Munn from Douglas Academy in Milngavie won first place and will go forward to the premier class today. The young cellist played the first movement of Elgar’s Concerto for cello in E minor.

In the afternoon, brass soloists and woodwind performers were in competition. In the evening, the singers took over with girl and boy vocal solos.
