Violin entrant hits all the right notes

Elspeth MacDonald was just one of the talented young musicians who performed yesterday at the Glasgow Music Festival.

A pupil from Douglas Academy in Milngavie, near Glasgow, she won first place in the Violin Solos – Open category.

She impressed judges with her performance of Bartok’s Romanian Dances to go forward to the String Solos – Premier category, which was won by cellist David Munn, also from Douglas Academy.

Recorder, woodwind and brass soloists competed in the afternoon and in the evening singers took to the stage at the Woodside Hall.
