I am in the process of recovering from a knee operation and I recently took advantage of the wheelchair facility offered by Braehead Shopping Centre in Glasgow. I was very pleasantly surprised by the courtesy shown by my fellow shoppers in extending their help by allowing me right of way, holding doors open, passing me items that were outwith my reach - in general, being very attentive. Alas, in two weeks I will be dispensing with all my aids and will be back to being an able-bodied shopper where once again passages will be blocked, doors let go in my face and normal service resumed.

It was good while it lasted.
