Dir: Chris Waitt
Like many of the women who have come into contact with
writer-director Chris Waitt, I couldn't wait to be shot of him. It wasn't so much the me-me-
me school of documentary he typifies. The idea at his film's
heart isn't half bad. Dumped
by yet another lover, Waitt sets
out to discover where he's
going wrong. While this inspires some mildly amusing navel-
gazing, it's more of a hook on which Waitt can hang a poor man's Louis Theroux act. When wandering around cities approaching women is not good enough for a contrived laugh he'll visit his mum or talk to a few homeless drunks. He's at his most infuriating when interviewing his
first, great love. Seeing him
in action there shows what a
excellent film he might have turned in if he wasn't so in
love with his own self-assumed wackiness.
