The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (PG)
ALISON ROWATJune 26 2008

Star rating: ***
Dir: Andrew Adamson
With: Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, Sergio Castellitto

Four children go through a wormhole in time again in this overwrought follow-up to The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Lucy, Edmund, Peter and Susan are transported back to Narnia from wartime London to help with Prince Caspian's struggle against an evil uncle. The battle scenes are well-executed, and there are plenty of talking animals - Eddie Izzard's chippy mouse the best of them - to while away the time, but Adamson doesn't manage to cast the same spell he did with the first film. Now, when you've seen one fantastical winged creature zip through the air you've pretty much seen them all. Aslan is still cool, though.

You need to relax a bit more when you go to the pictures, Alison. It might just be work to you but it's meant to be entertainment for the rest of us. Lighten up, it's a fantasy adventure and I'm certain I'll have a great time.
