Hollywood's pillaging of Asian horror cinema continues apace with this remake of Hong Kong filmmaking brothers Danny and Oxide Pang's exercise in ocular terror. Directed for the studios by the French enfants terribles David Moreau and Xavier Palud (whose calling card was provided by their moderately successful debut, Them), it concerns a blind violinist (Jessica Alba) who undergoes an eye transplant and immediately begins to see dead people everywhere. The good-looking cast acquits itself well enough and the production values are unsurprisingly high, but the emphasis here is on eye candy rather than spine tingle. Still, Moreau and Palud stage one or two effectively scary set-pieces.
