Here's a Dr Seuss story about an elephant and glory/ He's played by Jim Carrey, an actor quite scary/ But it's really quite fun, so don't worry kids/ And if all else fails, it will sell lots of vids!

Carrey's second appointment with the good doctor proves more successful than The Grinch, a film that left most children cold. This time the Bruce Almighty star lends his voice to the lovable Horton, a politically correct pachyderm who tries to save the tiny world of Whoville.

Hayward and Martino's animated film is an engaging if uneven package, with some parts beautifully rendered while others seem like padding. A deftly handled finale, featuring some spectacularly cheeky monkeys, ends this rumble in the jungle on a high.
