Where better than Tony Blair's old school to get your education, education, education in sun, swing and sangria? The grand old seat of learning opens its opulent grounds and tented bar this weekend for the third edition of what has quickly become one of the great jazz events on the Fringe.

Friday night is Latin Jazz night with dancing to salsa and samba, and Saturday features some of the top names in Scottish jazz, including world-class pianist Brian Kellock and trumpeter Colin Steele's award-winning quintet, as well as Dele Sosimi's powerfully rhythmic African dance band.

Acclaimed Edinburgh-based singer Niki King tops Sunday's bill, preceded by the blistering blues of singer-guitarist Kent DuChane and two afternoon attractions who aren't so very long out of school themselves, the current edition of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland and dynamic pianist Chris Lyons.

Lyons and his trio are gaining much attention for a brand of jazz that is choc-a-bloc with ideas, wilfully intricate tempo changes and intoxicating energy levels. As his recently released debut album, The Ill-Tempered Klavier, confirms, Lyons is a prodigiously gifted player who can cite Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum and Nirvana as influences on a band that's as suited to the mosh pit as the concert stage.
