A COUNCIL blunder, which saw a man from Sarratt buried in a grave plot belonging to another family, has been resolved.
The Kingston family, of Dimmocks Lane, buried Mr Richard Kingston in Woodcock Hill Cemetery in Rickmansworth earlier this year but the plot he was buried in had been sold to another family 16 years ago.
When the plot was sold in 1985, the sale was not entered into the council records, so it appeared to be vacant when the Kingston family wanted to bury Mr Kingston.
When the error emerged in May, it was feared the matter could go to court, with the prospect of Mr Kingston being exhumed.
However, it is believed the two families have negotiated a compromise that will enable Mr Kingston to stay where he is.
Leader of the council Mrs Ann Shaw was delighted by the news. She said: "I am glad the parties concerned have reached accommodation that does not require the resident to be exhumed."
