Committed to classical music on the BBC

Chris Gardner may have been out watching live performances rather than catching up on what was on TV if he believes BBC Scotland should "some day" show a performance by its cultural flagship, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (Arts, May 14). In case he was out, or has simply missed it, BBC Scotland, through the BBC SSO, has a committed programme of classical music performance on television.

The opening concert of the BBC SSO's 07/08 concert season last September, Holst's The Planets, was broadcast live on BBC2 Scotland. Proms in the Park Scotland was broadcast on BBC Four and BBC2 Scotland, with a repeat showing on BBC2 during the 2007 Christmas season. The BBC SSO's first concert at the 2008 Proms will be broadcast live on BBC Four, and in September the opening concert of the orchestra's 08-09 season, Beethoven's Choral Symphony, will be once again broadcast live on BBC2 Scotland.

Turned on Radio 3 when I got up and as usual got an advert about a weekend of chopin and the invitation to go on line and engage with a quiz. I turned off, booted up my computer and loged on not to the radio 3 quiz but to Naxos Radio.
