The tourist potential of Lewis (Mr Mac an Ultaigh, February 13), seems, indeed, to be underexamined. The annual visit of sea eagles, pictured, to the Brackendale Provincial Park, admittedly on the mainland, results in chock-a-block line-ups of charter buses and many individual visitors. Canada well knows how nature's unspoilt open spaces can attract people. More generally, I have not seen much comment on the viability of wave power as an alternative, nor any analysis of the promised long-term employment. A 2001 proposal, since withdrawn, for 29 turbines in our area promised an extremely small number of permanent maintenance jobs.
