What a breath of fresh air to read Anne Johnstone's well-thought-out and informed article on Trumpton, as we locals call it (The Herald, December 6). It was such a change from all the reporting in our local press which appears to be quite happy with Donald Trump bullying us into accepting his idea of a golf resort.

I was also quite enthusiastic about a golf resort but was horrified when I saw the size of it and the extent of the damage to the sand dunes.

Driving out to Ellon from Aberdeen on a sunny day can be a breathtaking experience; this has been commented on by many of our friends from south of the border and further afield. Please let us preserve what little we have left of our beautiful coastline and not be bullied into throwing it away for rather dubious promises that cannot be substantiated.

The letters you published on this subject from Joe Hartney and David Kelly (December 6) were also very well-thought-out on a subject that should have been dead and buried by now.

What is the point of the democratic process if it is not adhered to? Why, according to those we have elected, is there one rule for the rich and another for those not so well off?

A friend of ours took two years to get planning permission to erect a custom-built house for his wheelchair-using wife; his plans were constantly turned down on the grounds that it would be another vehicle coming out on to an already congested road - and this was almost on the doorstep of the Menie Estate.

A smaller development almost immediately across the road was also turned down for the same reason.

Is Mr Trump going to be able to build his estate without causing congestion and, if he is, perhaps he could enlighten us locals who are fed up with having to sit in traffic for hours to get into Aberdeen.

We fear that this development will be foisted on us against the wishes of most of the people who actually live in the area. One only has to go to the Downing Street website petitions and see how we are outnumbered probably by people who would never wash dishes for a living or occupy tied accommodation, which is what Mr Trump is offering.
